Kay Watts Nursing Home Ministry
Regarding my involvement with nursing home ministry... it has spanned approximately four decades. I started nursing home visitation via the "Teens Who Care Club" in my public Kentucky high school during late 70's. God has given me a special heart for nursing home residents through the years.
When lay Children's Pastor at Orlando First Church of God/now called New Beginnings Church, for 12 years I took preschoolers and elementary children, plus sometimes middle schoolers to nursing homes for outreach ministry. Visits included such activities:
My ventriloquist partner "Grandma Gracie" read her favorite poem "Thanksliving" between children's puppet songs and greeted/shook hands with residents while children played balloon volleyball. (see below picture)
I have visited church members in nursing homes through the years, had prayer. With several, I took my dwarf rabbit in a felt hat and visited other residents in hallways/sitting rooms. I visit with our women's ministry, plus I visited and read to a blind widow approx. weekly for 4-5 years until she passed 6 weeks ago.
