• Try to keep the length short, preferable in the 5-10 minute range.
• Keep the message simple and focus just on one or two points.
• Try to inject some of yourself and your experience.
• Ask for a response from the residents- get them involved in your presentation.
• Speak clearly and slowly with enough volume to be heard at the rear of the room.
• Utilize a short prayer at the beginning, end or both.

• Locate the lyrics and music for the hymn you select from the following websites:
  1. The Cyber Hymnal
  2. HymnSite.com
  3. The Electronic Hymnal
  4. The Ames Hymn Collection
• Copy the lyrics in a printable format, using size 18 font. You may want to include a relevant scripture verse and some information on the writer.
• Build your sermonette from the history and background information and/or use the devotional from Back to the Bible.
• Print enough copies for each resident and hand out before you speak.
• Close by reading the Hymn out loud or by singing it with the group.
